War 2: High Budget, Low Impact

With a massive budget of over ₹300 crores, War 2 was expected to be one of Bollywood’s biggest action blockbusters. Directed by Ayan Mukerji and led by Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, the film promised scale, spectacle, and thrill. But did it meet expectations?

The movie started strong with an engaging first half, but the second half failed to maintain the momentum. The flashback that revealed the reason for the rift between Kabir (Hrithik Roshan) and Raghu aka Vikram (Jr. NTR) did not have the emotional depth and came across as unconvincing. While Hrithik’s screen presence was applaudable, Jr. NTR’s Bollywood debut fell short due to weak character development. Fans familiar with his powerful performances in RRR, Devara, or Aravinda Sametha would find this outing underwhelming.

Visually, the VFX disappointed in several places, and some sequences—especially the train fight—looked highly unrealistic. The much-discussed six-pack abs of Jr. NTR added little to the story and felt unnecessary. Kiara Advani had very limited screen time, which made her role forgettable.

One of the most hyped elements was Kali, a global criminal syndicate made up of powerful individuals from different nations. Unfortunately, the film failed to make Kali threatening or memorable. This concept had the potential to extend into sequels and create a strong villainous universe, but it was wasted.

On the positive side, the climax location looked stunning, the background score and songs worked well, and supporting performances by Anil Kapoor and Ashutosh Rana stood out. Still, the climax fight lacked the intensity expected from a film of this scale.

Verdict

War 2 had the budget, cast, and hype, but it delivered a mixed bag. Hrithik carried the film, but poor VFX, weak writing, and underdeveloped characters prevented it from becoming the action spectacle it could have been.
